'This Letter Is For You' is a short film addressing the topic of violence towards women, which is a topic I have always felt very close to since many women in Italy and worldwide are killed by their partners due to jealousy and unresolved issues. The project was inspired by all the stories I have heard about unfortunate women who were killed by their partners while growing up and about one of my friend's story. This work aims to raise awareness about the topic of violence by reaching a global audience. It’s from the perspective of a murdered woman. The visuals don't represent violence, but rather her joy for life, colours and the mundanity of her everyday life, portraying her kids’ toys, walks, and her passion for nature. It was shot with a Canon R5 when showcasing the main character, toys, and life at home, and with a Retroscope camera when portraying the shots that the woman would take to document her life, therefore I wanted a low quality camera. With this choice, I wanted people to relate and feel close to this woman, who could be someone they know. The narrative is a letter the protagonist reads, first addressed to her husband, and afterwards, it is dedicated to all the women, in the hope of giving them the strength to leave their partners and live the life they deserve.
This short film was fully realised by me. It was written, directed, shot, edited, scored and narrated by me.
The project was exhibited at Villa Arconati (Milan), Copeland Gallery (London), Close-Up Cinema (London) and it was shortlisted for the Voce Spettacolo Film Festival in 2025.
